Nicki Minaj Digs Up A Seven-Year-Old Tweet From Kendrick Lamar To Make A Point About Sexism In Hip Hop

Can't find the lie in this.

Nicki Minaj has been very vocal about her struggles with being taken seriously in the hip hop industry as a woman. The Pinkprint emcee recently took to Twitter calling out sexism in hip hop after fellow rapper, Ross, said that she doesn’t get the respect she deserves during a chat with Rap Radar.

Detailing her struggle to gain respect as a female rapper Nicki wrote, “In any field, women must work TWICE as hard to even get HALF the respect her male counterparts get.”

Calling out rappers who were initially skeptical of appearing on tracks with her, Nicki wrote, “The greats collaborated w/ Drake, Kendrick & Jcole b/c they’re dope MC’s. They collab’d w/ nicki cuz someone pulled a gun to their heads.”

Nicki even pulled out a tweet from Kendrick Lamar slamming men for their hate of the Young Money rapstress. “This is so telling and scary. I’d have to wear some baggy pants n timbs for men to openly give props,” she wrote in reply to K.Dot’s observation.

No stranger to speaking her mind, Nicki recently reflected on her journey into hip hop and the lack of female rappers at her emergence during an interview with XXL. “My role in hip hop has been super unique because when my first album came out, there had been so much time where there wasn’t a female rap album out that went platinum,” she said. The “Rake It Up” rapper continued, “There wasn’t a big female rap presence right before I got in… So, my role was really reintroducing the female rapper to pop culture.”
