Aaliyah's Mother Speaks Out On The Allegation That R. Kelly Got Caught Having Sex With The Late Singer

"These lies and fabrications cannot be tolerated..."

This past Tuesday (Jan. 1), two of R. Kelly’s former staff members divulged details about he and the late R&B legend, Aaliyah having a sexual relationship and even believed that, at one point, the Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number producer had gotten the teenager pregnant. Many fans and friends of the iconic singer were naturally outraged by these allegations and now, the family of Aaliyah have released a statement in response to these heinous claims.

The singer’s mother, Diane Haughton, penned, “the woman and so-called backup singer in the forthcoming “Surviving” documentary that describes seeing, meeting or ever breathing the same air as my daughter, Aaliyah is lying and is a liar.”

  • "My husband and I were always on tour with her... and every place she went throughout her entire career"

Diane continued, "whomever this woman is, I have never seen her before ... until now. These lies and fabrications cannot be tolerated and allowed to be spewed from the forked tongues of saboteurs of Aaliyah's legacy..."

  • "Shame on all those involved in this project who thought it kosher to drag Aaliyah's name into a situation that has nothing to do with her..."

The former backup singer, Jovante Cunningham claimed the team would "sneak Aaliyah out of the hotel room," and summed up the alleged sexual relationship as "things that an adult should not be doing with a child."

Surviving R. Kelly airs in three installments, beginning this Thursday at 9 p.m., EST, on Lifetime.
