There’s still one week left until the live-action remake of The Lion King rolls into theaters, and Beyoncé and Disney are doing everything they can to truly make this an occasion to remember. Coinciding with the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles, Queen Bey surprise-dropped a new song, titled “Spirit,” that will be featured in The Lion King soundtrack, last night (July 9).

  1. That’s not all! The single is actually a precursor to a forthcoming album, The Lion King: The Gift, which was executive produced by Yoncé herself. It will also be featured on the film’s official soundtrack, which Bey is also a producer on.

Disney announced the news in a tweet, revealing that the album will drop on July 19, which is the same day the live-action remake comes out. The digital soundtrack will be available on July 11.

  2. The rest of the track list has not been revealed yet, but it will feature collaborations with global artists and original recordings from Beyoncé steeped in African influences.

"I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline," Beyoncé said in a statement announcing the album. "Each song was written to reflect the film's storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me."

The internet has caught the spirit and is absolutely hysterical right now.

Once you listen to the soulful ballad, you’ll completely understand. The powerful ballad effortlessly interlays Bey’s honeyed vocals over a gospel-influenced beat, painting an uplifting message. It’s almost enough to make you catch the Holy Ghost.

Fans are already pointing out that Beyoncé totally deserves to take all the awards this season.
