Less than a month after the release of her Disney-backed Black Is King cinematic experience, Beyoncé has blessed her fans with another stunning visual.
On Monday (August 24), the Grammy-winning global superstar dropped off a new video for fan-favorite song, “Brown Skin Girl.”
The track originally appeared on The Gift, the soundtrack album for Disney’s live action remake of The Lion King, that Beyoncé executive-produced and was released last year. The ode to melanated beauties, which features WizKid, SaINt JHN and daughter Blue Ivy, became an anthem for women all over the world, particularly Black women. It even sparked the #BrownSkinGirl social challenge.
“It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown. We wanted every character to be shot in a regal light...It was important that we are all in this together and we’re all celebrating each other,” Beyoncé shared in a statement to Good Morning America.
Directed by Jenn Nkiru, the gorgeously shot six-minute video features a number of melanated beauties donning beautiful outfits amid breathtaking backdrops.
Among those who make appearances in the video are supermodel Naomi Campbell, actress Lupita Nyong’o, fellow Destiny’s Child mate Kelly Rowland, who are referenced on the track, and collaborator WizKid. The Knowles women come together toward the end of the video, when Beyoncé is shown with her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, her younger daughter Rumi and her mother Tina Knowles-Lawson.
The visual comes less than a month after Black Is King, which was released on July 31. “Brown Skin Girl” is the fourth video for The Gift. At the time of the live action remake’s release, she released “Spirit” and “Bigger.” She dropped the visual for “Already” coinciding with Black Is King’s arrival on Disney+.
