Prince Rocks Madison Square Garden
It may be freezing in New York City, but music lovers knew where to find some serious heat last night (Jan. 18).
Seven-time GRAMMY winner Prince took the stage, performing electrifying renditions of some of his most popular hits. Of course, the sold-out concert was attended by plenty of admiring VIPs, including Mos Def, Madonna, Donald and Melania Trump, and Late Night talk show host Jimmy Fallon.
Prince's “Welcome 2 America” tour featured recent double-Grammy nominee Janelle Monáe as the opening act. Monae also appeared with Prince for a modern and super funky rendition of “If I Was Your Girlfriend.”
Fellow Twin Cities band Mint Condition rounded out the bill. In a surprise appearance, Cyndi Lauper joined Prince on stage during the final number, “Jungle Love,” along with WBLS Radio Personality Egypt.
To date, the tour has included appearances by established R&B favorites like Cassandra Wilson, Maceo Parker, Larry Graham and Sheila E, plus emerging artist Esperanza Spalding.
