MC Lyte Teams Up With Common for New Song, 'Dear John'

The single serves as the official anthem of #EducateOURMen.

MC Lyte is releasing new music, and is preparing to release a new album. The legendary femcee teamed up with Chi-town rapper Common for “Dear John,” the first single off her currently untitled project.

The Loudbox-produced track has an old school hip hop feel as both rappers do what they do best. Newcomer by way of Cali, 10Beats, who is also featured on the song, gives his rendition of Diddy’s “It’s All About the Benjamins” on the hook. "You wanna be ballas, shot-callers, dippin' in the Benz straight lawless?/ Or, would you rather be fathers to your daughters, even though it's getting harder?" he raps.

In addition to it being the first sign of a new album from Lyte in the 11 years since she dropped Da Undaground Heat in 2003, “Dear John” also serves as the official anthem of #EducateOURMen, the scholarship arm of the rapper's Hip Hop Sisters Network.
