Erykah Badu and Tyler, the Creator to Appear in Black Dynamite

Special episode of the animated show takes characters to the "Magical Land of Oz-Watts" to tackle police brutality.

Erykah Badu and Tyler, the Creator are moving from music to animation by lending their voices to an hour-long special of Black Dynamite on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. The episode will focus primarily on the issue of police brutality.

According to Billboard, this episode of Michael Jai White's blaxploitation parody/tribute is titled "The Wizard of Watts" and sees the title character, Black Dynamite, defending a community from police during riots. Pitchfork reports that "Black Dynamite is then hit in the head with a brick, which causes him to hallucinate into the Magical Land of Oz-Watts, where he is called upon to defend the community from the police."

This setting parallels what has been taking place following the injustices in the Eric Garner and Michael Brown murder cases. The special's director and co-writer, Carl Jones, spoke on this correlation: "As a comedy writer, I feel it's my job to make people laugh while using constructive social criticism to evoke thought and inspire dialogue."

Tyler's and Badu's roles have not yet been explained in detail. The special episode will premiere on Jan. 10 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
