Update 8:15pm: A representative for Prince has told TMZ that the singer has been fighting the flu for several weeks now and that is why he was in the hospital. He wanted to make yesterday's performance in Atlanta, even though he still wasn't feeling well and that is when the decision was made to seek medical attention. He is now back home and recuperating.

As reported by TMZ, Prince was rushed to the hospital early this morning (April 15).

It was reported that his private plane had to make an emergency landing in Illinois at the Quad City International Airport in Moline around one o'clock in the morning. Following the landing, the singer was rushed to a nearby hospital via ambulance.

As reported by TMZ, one source claims that Prince still is in the care of the hospital and "not doing well" while another source says he's since been released.

As of 6:30 p.m. Friday evening, the nature of his condition and what the medical emergency was is still unclear.
