The Charlotte police department has released the audio of the 911 call that led to the police shooting death of Jonathan Ferrell, an unarmed 24-year-old man.

Ferrell showed up to the front door of Sarah McCartney's home early Saturday looking for help after he was in a car wreck and she panicked. McCartney dialed 911 and told the operator that Ferrell was breaking into her home.

“There is a guy breaking in my front door. He is trying to kick it down,” McCartney said in the call that led to Ferrell's death. She woke up out of her sleep and opened the door for Ferrell, thinking it was her husband.

The woman grew anxious and repeatedly asked the operator when the police were going to come. “He’s still there yelling. Oh, my God. Oh, my God," she said. Ferrell was not in the house, according to McCartney, but she was afraid that he would try to smash her back window.

Officers responding to her call reportedly saw Ferrell on the road leading to the neighborhood pool. Police say he ran towards them and they tried to stop him with a stun gun. Officer Randall Kerrick then fired 12 shots and 10 struck Ferrell, who died at the scene.
Kerrick is charged with voluntary manslaughter. A probable-cause hearing for Kerrick is scheduled for Oct. 7. His attorney Michael Greene said his client's "actions were justified on the night in question."

Chris Chestnut, the family attorney, disagreed. He says the video of the shooting shows Kerrick firing four shots pausing and then firing six more and pausing again before firing the last two shots. "This is clearly a criminal shooting," he told the Associated Press.
