Ashlee Jenae's Father Launches GoFundMe to Bring His Daughter Home From Tanzania
The family of Ashlee Jenae is navigating grief and an international investigation at the same time — and now facing the financial weight that comes with both.
Her father, Harry Robinson, has launched a GoFundMe campaign with a $50,000 goal to cover the costs of bringing his daughter's body home to the United States. According to TMZ, Robinson says the funds will go toward travel, funeral arrangements, and the mounting expenses tied to an ongoing investigation overseas. Jenae, whose legal name was Ashly Robinson, died on April 10 in Tanzania. She was 31.
Jenae had been in Tanzania with her fiancé, Joe McCann, founder of Asymmetric Financial, to celebrate her 31st birthday. McCann proposed on April 5, Jenae's birthday, and she posted photos from the trip announcing their engagement. Five days later, she was dead.
According to the family's interview with CBS News, the circumstances of her death remain deeply unclear. Her parents say they did not hear from McCann until roughly 11 hours after the incident occurred — a detail her mother called "concerning." Tanzanian authorities have suggested the possibility of suicide, a claim the family flatly rejects. "It doesn't make any sense," her mother told CBS. "She appeared happy and excited in the days leading up to her death."
Hotel staff reportedly stepped in and separated Jenae and McCann into different rooms following a dispute before her death. Tanzanian police are handling the investigation. No official cause of death has been confirmed, no charges have been filed, and no autopsy results have been publicly released as of publication.
The family says they plan to travel to Tanzania to seek answers firsthand. McCann has not issued a public statement beyond what he allegedly told authorities. Jenae's friend and PR professional Savannah Britt was among the first to call for a criminal investigation, posting publicly that Jenae "would NEVER commit suicide" and calling the fiancé's account into question.
Jenae had more than 70,000 Instagram followers and built her audience around travel, fashion, and lifestyle content. Her engagement post on April 5 was the last thing she shared publicly.
