A private funeral service for poet and author Maya Angelou is being held on Saturday at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she first started teaching in 1982.
"Maya Angelou has been a towering figure—at Wake Forest and in American culture. She had a profound influence in civil rights and racial reconciliation. We will miss profoundly her lyrical voice and always keen insights,” said Wake Forest University President Nathan O. Hatch on Wednesday.
First Lady Michelle Obama will be among the many dignitaries and celebrities attending the ceremony to remember Angelou, who died last week at 86.
BET Networks will be airing the memorial service at 10 a.m. ET/ 7 a.m. PT on Centric. At that time, you will also be able to watch a live stream below.
