Alabama Teacher Puts on Blackface to Become Kanye West for Halloween

Blackface is never funny.

A teacher in Alabama has a lot of questions to answer this week after a photo of him in blackface as Kanye West surfaced from over the weekend.

Heath Morrow, a fifth grade teacher at Chestnut Grove Elementary School in Decatur City, Ala., posed for a photo with his wife as Kim Kardashian while donning dark makeup, striped aviator sunglasses and a “Kanye for Prez 2020” sign. The photo was posted by Marrow’s wife on Facebook with the comment, "Haha some people thought Heath was really a black man.”

Although it’s either been deleted or made private since, the photo was circulated online, causing many people to be offended by the teacher’s actions.

Celebrities and college students alike have been making news in recent years for the offensive act of adorning blackface as a Halloween costume.

Recall actress Julianne Hough, who pretended to be Uzo Aduba’s OITNB character Crazy Eyes for her 2013 costume. Complete with blackface and an orange prison jumpsuit, Hough was ridiculed and forced to apologize for her inconsiderate actions.

“I am a huge fan of the show Orange Is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created," Hough tweeted in response. "It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” she explained.
