Father Of Teen Shot In The Head By White Driver Believes His Daughter Was Killed In A Hate Crime

Rodney Roberson slammed authorities for calling Bianca's death a "road rage" incident.

Update July 5:

After David Desper was arrested for fatally shooting 18-year-old Bianca Roberson during a traffic incident, the teen’s father spoke out against the characterization of the crime.

“We’re still upset and angry and we still want answers as to why this happened to our daughter,” Rodney Roberson told NBC Philadelphia.

Roberson’s daughter Bianca Roberson was killed on June 28 when she and Desper tried merging into the same lane. Desper then allegedly pulled out a .40 caliber handgun and opened fire, shooting Roberson in the head before fleeing.

Although investigators said they believe Desper shot Bianca in a fit of road rage, Rodney has said the incident is nothing less than a “hate crime.”

“To shoot her in the head. It wasn’t road rage,” Rodney Roberson told NBC Philadelphia. “To me it was a hate crime.”

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan hasn’t said the crime was racially motivated and officials still continue to investigate why the shooting occurred. However, Bianca’s father is seeking the maximum punishment for Desper.

“I want them to throw the book at this guy,” Rodney Roberson said. “Throw him under the jail. He took my daughter.”

Previous:

A man who was wanted by authorities for allegedly killing another motorist during an rodge rage incident has been captured and arrested.

28-year-old David Desper was arrested at him home in Trainer, Pennsylvania, on Sunday (July 2). He had previously fled the scene of the reported incident after opening fire at 18-year-old Bianca Roberson on Wednesday (June 28), shooting her in the head.

Authorities believe both motorists were trying to change lanes before Desper shot his gun at Roberson. They’re labeling her killing as “savage” and “senseless.”

Desper was charged with the murder of Bianca Roberson. Police discovered the gun they believe was used to kill the innocent woman and also confiscated the red pick up truck he was driving when he encountered Robeson at the interchange of Route 100 and Route 202.

Initially, West Goshen Police Chief Joseph Gleason issued a sketch of then-unknown alleged murderer at a press conference on Friday. District Attorney Tom Hogan says the arrest came after an intense police investigation, tracking thousands of tips that poured into the West Goshen PD after Roberson was killed.

“This appears to be a savage, senseless and brutal act from one human being to another human being,” he said, but also confirmed there was “no indication” by officers that the crime was race related.

“This is the story of a savage and senseless murder,” Hogan also said at the arrest announcement. “Because somebody didn’t want to give way. Because somebody didn’t want to merge into a lane of traffic.”

Roberson’s parents, Rodney and Michelle Roberson, attended the arrest announcement but did not speak publicly.
