White Woman Dragged For Making Unseasoned Potato Salad With Raisins Version Of 'This Is America'

"Nicole Arbour's parody is proof white people think Black pain & oppression is funny."

It didn't take long for Childish Gambino's cerebral, poignant video for his single "This Is America" to be memed and parodied. However, one problematic rendition by a white, female YouTuber has people wishing no one attempted to satirize the video in the first place.

On Saturday, Canadian YouTube comedian Nicole Arbour — who has been canceled in the past for her video "Dear Fat People" — posted a whitewashed parody video of Gambino's record.

  • Arbour called her video "This Is America: Women's Edit"

Arbour's "Women's Edit," which should really be called the "White Women's Edit" due to its incessant exclusion of issues for women of color, speaks on beauty standards, pay inequality, and rape.

However, in Arbour's version the subjects she chooses to tackle are merely mentioned for provocation instead of making a social commentary.

  • Almost immediately after posting her video, Arbour was heavily criticized for touching the song

  • In a way, Arbour's instinct to parody the video proves the point made in the original song: flashy content will always steal the attention away from the true pain of racism

  • Some even wondered if the memes about the video somewhat laid the groundwork for Arbour
