It didn't take long for Childish Gambino's cerebral, poignant video for his single "This Is America" to be memed and parodied. However, one problematic rendition by a white, female YouTuber has people wishing no one attempted to satirize the video in the first place.
On Saturday, Canadian YouTube comedian Nicole Arbour — who has been canceled in the past for her video "Dear Fat People" — posted a whitewashed parody video of Gambino's record.
Arbour's "Women's Edit," which should really be called the "White Women's Edit" due to its incessant exclusion of issues for women of color, speaks on beauty standards, pay inequality, and rape.
However, in Arbour's version the subjects she chooses to tackle are merely mentioned for provocation instead of making a social commentary.
