People Are Going Off Over Pete Buttigieg Campaign Comparisons To Barack Obama’s
Pete Buttigieg’s senior messaging adviser drew a comparison between the Democratic presidential candidate’s bid and former President Barack Obama’s bid, and sent Twitter into a frenzy.
Larry Grisolano, who was also the senior messaging advisor during Obama’s 2007 campaign, made the comparison in a fundraising email ahead of the Liberty and Justice Celebration in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, Nov. 1, The Hill reports.
"Voters yearned for change, for someone genuine and sincere," Grisolano wrote. "They were well aware of the country’s mounting challenges, and they were prepared to take a chance on a new approach and new leadership because the same old ways just were not working."
Grisolano compared “the moment that changed everything for the Obama campaign” with “that same moment for Pete, and for America.”
Buttigieg’s campaign has struggled with gaining momentum among Black voters.
Recent racial blunders he’s being called out for range from using a photo of a Black Kenyan woman in Africa for his Douglass Plan for Black Americans, to calling Michael Harriot, a writer for The Root, after he penned a viral op-ed on the presidential candidate’s past remarks on minorities and education.
The Twitterverse had several reactions to the comparison and the overall strain Buttigieg’s campaign has reportedly had with relating to Black voters.
