“Sometimes, I could have no makeup on, and my hair could be a mess, but I feel beautiful,” she shared during the same interview with Vogue.

There’s no secret that musicians inspire each other. According to multi-instrumentalist, she received some great advice from classically-trained pianist and famous singer Alicia Keys.

While chatting with Refinery29, H.E.R. divulged that Keys provided her with some words to remember for when she’s in the creative process of writing a song. “[She] told me that when it comes to music, all you need is three chords and the truth,” H.E.R. explained. “I think you can apply that to life, too.”
