Phylicia Rashad


Phylicia Rashad, born Phylicia Ayers-Allen, is a Tony Award-winning actress, singer and stage director. She is the sister of choreographer, actress and director Debbie Allen and is best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show. Even earlier in her career, she played Deena Jones in Dreamgirls on Broadway, replacing Sheryl Lee Ralph after serving as her understudy for some time. Rashād became the first African-American actress to win the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a play for her role in A Raisin in the Sun. Since The Cosby Show, Rashād has remained active in television and movies, appearing in Everybody Hates Chris, Psych, For Colored Girls and Good Deeds.
