BET Awards 2026: The Best Actress Category Is a Real Battle This Year

Angela Bassett, Ayo Edebiri, Chase Infiniti, Coco Jones, Cynthia Erivo, Keke Palmer, Quinta Brunson, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor make this one of the most stacked fields on the ballot.

BET Awards’ 2026 Best Actress category is one of the strongest on the board and it’s obvious with the look at the nominees list. The category includes Angela Bassett, Ayo Edebiri, Chase Infiniti, Coco Jones, Cynthia Erivo, Keke Palmer, Quinta Brunson, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor.

This is the kind of lineup that covers multiple lanes of entertainment simultaneously. You have veteran prestige in Bassett and Hall, television power in Brunson and Edebiri, multi-hyphenate energy in Jones and Erivo, and crossover star power in Palmer and Taylor. Infiniti rounds out the field as one of the newer names getting a major and well-earned BET Awards spotlight.

BET has already singled out Taylor as having a “golden year,” which only adds to how competitive this race feels heading into the show. Just cruising over the list, it’s clear that many of the nominees had a golden year alongside Taylor. Bassett received the Excellence in the Arts award at ABFF, Edebiri took home the 2026 Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut Performance for her role in the play “Proof,” Infiniti won Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series at the 2026 Gotham TV Awards for her role as Agnes McKenzie in Hulu's “The Testaments,” but it was Erivo’s trophy shelf that needed to make the most room.

She took home: a Grammy for "Defying Gravity" (with Ariana Grande), an NAACP Image Award: for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture, received the Derek Malcolm Award for Innovation for the Critics' Circle Film Awards, and was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in King Charles III's annual New Year Honors list for her services to music and drama.

However, winning Best Actress t is not just about who had the biggest year in one medium. It is about who stayed visible and who made the culture pay attention. That is why this field feels bigger than a simple acting race. It is a snapshot of Black women owning film, television, music, and the spaces in between. This category is not built for easy picks, and that is exactly why it is one of the most interesting on the ballot.
