BET Awards 2022: 5 Legendary Artists Who’ve Won the ‘Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational’ Award
BET Awards honors gospel artists with the “Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel / Inspirational Award” for their outstanding performance and contributions in the genre. Ahead of this year’s BET Awards 2022, hosted by actress and returning emcee Taraji P.Henson on Sunday, June 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, We’re looking at some of the most memorable winners, nominees, performances, and more. Before then, check out five legendary artists who’ve won the “Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award”.
Donnie McClurkin
Gospel legend Donnie McClurkin won the inaugural trophy in 2001, beating out several inspirational musicians, including Yolonda Adams, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, and Hezekiah Walker. Donnie won the award once again in 2005.
Yolanda Adams
Yolanda holds the record for most wins for a female artist in this category, with four. She received her first award in 2002 and earned two more the following two consecutive years before Donnie took home the title in 2005. She earned the trophy once again in 2012.
Snoop Dogg ft Rance Allen
West coast rap legend Snoop Dogg has been in the hip-hop industry for over three decades with a career filled with accolades for his rap lyrics. However, in 2019, the “Gin and Juice” emcee earned an award for a track titled “Blessing Me Again,” off the rapper’s 16th studio album Snoop Dogg Presents Bible of Love, which also marked the rapper’s gospel debut.
Marvin Sapp
Iconic gospel singer and songwriter Marvin Sapp initially took home the award in 2008, taking the lead ahead of acts including, The Clark Sisters, Kirk Franklin, Deitrick Haddon, and Trin-I-Tee 5:7.
Kirk Franklin
Kirk Franklin is the most nominated musician in this category, male or female, with 13 awards recognitions and five wins. The “Stomp” artist last took home bragging rights at the BET Awards 2020 and 2021.
