Regina King’s Golden Globes Acceptance Speech Got A Standing Ovation From The Internet
Regina King just won the Golden Globes award for best supporting actress for her role in Barry Jenkins' "If Beale Street Could Talk," but perhaps her best performance was during her acceptance speech.
In front everyone, she gave a gracious speech and effectively defeated the cutoff music with a challenge to Hollywood producers and directors: more women involved, now.
"In the next two years, everything that I produce will be 50 percent women,” she proclaimed. “I challenge anyone out there who is in a position of power—in all industries—I challenge you to challenge yourself and do the same."
“I know it's going to be tough," she prefaced. "Anyone out there who is in a position of power, not just in our industry, but in all industries, to stand with us in solidarity and do the same."
Regina King also received a nomination for best actress in a limited series or movie for her performance as Latrice Butler in Netflix's "Seven Seconds." She won an Emmy for the same role.
