Brian Banks’ Accuser Ordered to Pay $2.6 Million

The Los Angeles Superior Court ordered Wanetta Gibson to pay $2.6 million in damages on Friday for making false rape accusations against Brian Banks.

The Los Angeles Superior Court ordered Wanetta Gibson to pay $2.6 million in damages on Friday for making false rape accusations against Brian Banks. She will pay $1.5 million in damages and an additional $1.1 million in fees, reported the Long Beach Press Telegram.

In 2002, Banks was a promising football prospect at Long Beach Poly High but lost his scholarship offer from the University of South California upon conviction and was sent to prison.

Gibson, who at the time claimed Banks raped her at the high school, sued the school district for an unsafe environment. She received $750,000 from a $1.5 million settlement.

Banks was released from jail in 2007 and was exonerated in 2012. He was signed to the Atlanta Falcons in April.

“I don't expect any handouts or favoritism. I'm here to work like everybody else and the result of my hard work will be whatever they deem necessary,” he said in an interview with Fox Sports
