Janet Mock Named Contributing Editor at Marie Claire

The transgender activist will share her perspective on beauty and culture.

Janet Mock has just been named a contributing editor for Marie Claire and we could not be more excited to see what's in store for the publication. The trans activist and writer, who first shared her own transgender journey in the pages of Marie Claire back in 2011, has since gone on to pen a New York Times best-selling memoir and brought attention and inspiration to the LGBT rights movement. In her new role, Mock will bring in her point of view about youth, culture and women's varied journeys, but don't think it'll all be transgender-centered stories.

"I'll also give my perspective on beauty, and pop culture, and politics, and not just be thrown into a corner as the trans correspondent," Mock said.

Editor-in-Chief Anne Fulenwider also stressed that Mock is not just there to lend her writing talents on covering LGBT issues. She's hoping that her words and the stories she shares will continue to resonate with their readers.

"I'm certainly not discounting her transgender identity; I think that's really important and that's what makes it so topical right now and what's given it a lot of attention," Fulenwider said, "but at the center of this is the story of a woman finding herself, and those are the stories that really resonate with young women."

Mock's first piece as contributing editor for Marie Claire, which will appear in the fall, will look into the women she's met around the country during her book tour. With her new position, her mission is to give transgendered women a space to feel comfortable and like they don't have to prove themselves to feel accepted.

"So to have a magazine say, 'No, we know that girls and women come from various walks of life, and you're just on one path, but that doesn't negate from the experience of what a woman is or who a woman is,'" she said, "I find that to be revolutionary." always gives you the latest fashion and beauty trends, tips and news.
