Jim Jones and Chrissy Lampkin Want to be Reality TV’s Face of Love

The couple will be tying the knot for the world to see.

Chrissy Lampkin and Jim Jones have been done with the ratchet reality TV life for some time now, having waved goodbye to their stints on Love & Hip Hop: New York for good. Now, with 12 years of commitment under their belt, the couple is returning to the reality TV circuit to showcase their nuptials with the entire world as their witnesses in their new WEtv reality show Vow or Never.

We know you both as two of the OGs from the Love & Hip Hop franchise. You’ve since left the show, though. Why’d you decide to return to the reality TV circuit?

Chrissy: We got an opportunity to do this again on another network that would give us the freedom to kind of be who we are and show the type of show that means something to us. That rings truer to us. So, you know, [it] took a little convincing on his part. He had to talk me into it, but I’m glad he did, and I’m looking forward to this relationship with WEtv.

The show is about you [Jim] wanting to air your wedding on national TV, but Chrissy, you seem to have some doubts. Why do you both have these conflicting approaches?

Chrissy: I just think that it’s an added pressure having a live wedding. I don’t think he quite grasped all the things that can go wrong at a live wedding.

Jim: I’m trying.

Chrissy: So this idea of having a live wedding seemed like a good try to put more pressure on us.

Jim: I wasn’t thinking about the pressure. I was thinking about what we was already into.

Chrissy: And since we had showcased everything else, why not a live wedding?

Jim: Yeah, s**t like that.

You’ve been together for 12 years. Now that you’re getting ready to tie the knot, what is one thing you can't live without in one another?

Chrissy: Him just being there. His presence. If I’m going to marry him and be with him for the rest of my life, it’s important that he’s present in this relationship in all aspects.

Jim: Just her, period. I can’t do it without her.

It looks like your show will take a positive spin as opposed to the ratchet theme that’s so common today. What do you think of the current state of reality TV?

Chrissy: It’s a little embarrassing. When people ask me what I do and when I tell them I have a reality show, I don’t want to be put in that same category. I mean, not that crazy things didn’t happen while I was on the show, but they were genuine crazy things. I can live with that. I can’t live with the fabricated madness. It just doesn’t sit well with me.

What are three things about one another you admire the most?

Chrissy: I love how driven Jimmy is. He finds a way to get it done and I can always depend on him to have my back, and I love the way he loves his son.

Jim: She’s pretty. She holds me down with everything I do. She’s a solid person. Not too many people that could put up with my s**t and still maintain being my friend at the same time.

Chrissy: I need an award for that.

What do you ultimately want your viewers and fans to take away from this series?

Chrissy: That it’s not easy but it’s worth it. Relationships aren’t easy but they’re worth it.

Jim: Yeah, relationships definitely ain’t easy, but you know, it’s a part of life.

Chrissy: If we can be an example of finding love in the midst of reality TV and hip hop and all of the pitfalls and distractions, I’d like to be the face of that. In the face of all of that, we can still find each other and hold each other down.

Jim and Chrissy: Vow or Never premieres on September 1 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on WEtv.
