Rosie O'Donnell Throws Shade at Sherri Shepherd
Rosie O'Donnell is coming back to The View, but she's not exactly playing nice. The returning co-host took a jab at her departing predecessor Sherri Shepherd in an interview with Variety on Tuesday, when talking about wanting the new incarnation of the show to be "smarter."
“No one is going to think the Earth is flat,” O'Donnell says, referring to an infamous flub Shepherd made when she started on the show in 2007. “When I was at home watching that, I thought I was going to have an aneurysm.”
Shepherd has always been upfront about her intellectual limitations, telling New York magazine in 2009, “I think people expected me to be another Star [Jones], a brainiac with forceful opinions, but that’s not what I brought,” Sherri explained. “When Joy [Behar] said ‘bi-partisan’ for the first time, I was like, ‘What the heck is that? Is that a French word?’ I didn’t know anything about politics, and I wasn’t afraid to say I was just learning. I think people like that I’m real.”
Clearly, Shepherd's strategy worked and she quickly became one of the most beloved women on the panel. The TV personality announced that her contract for The View was not renewed last month.
O'Donnell, who was one of The View's most controversial hosts during her first stint on the talk show, returns to the table on September 15.
