Simone Biles Unsure About Competing in LA 2028 Olympics

Fresh off winning three golds and a silver in Paris, Biles is now focused on more than just the podium.

On a sparkling Monday (April 21) in Madrid, Simone Biles was crowned Sportswoman of the Year at the Laureus World Sports Awards. It was the latest laurel in a career already gilded with greatness. Last August, the American gymnast stunned the world yet again at the Paris Olympics, where she added three gold medals and a silver to her already dazzling Olympic résumé, bringing her total to a staggering seven golds and 11 medals overall.

But don’t expect Biles to start planning her beam dismount for Los Angeles 2028 just yet.

For now, one of the best athletes in the history of sports—and the most decorated gymnast of all time—has other priorities.

"I'm really trying to enjoy life, to spend time with my husband [Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens], go support him at his games, live my life as a woman," she said in an interview with French sports daily L'Equipe published on Tuesday. "I've accomplished so much in my sport."

As for another Olympic run? “It would really have to excite me,” Biles said, adding that she’s in a new chapter now—one where joy, not medals, is the metric. Her body seems to agree. Biles, currently 28, will be 31 when the LA Olympic Games start in July 2028.

"I went back to the village, I took the elevator and my body literally collapsed. I was sick for 10 days," she told L’Equipe, before recounting another experience. "The other day, we were sprinting in the garden with friends, I had aches and pains for three days. So, I honestly don't know. We'll see."

Still, the door isn’t completely closed. “Whether on the apparatus or in the stands, I still don’t know,” she said of her presence at the 2028 Games. “But 2028 feels so far away, and my body is aging. I felt it in Paris.”

Yet, even as time ticks forward and priorities shift, Biles remains a comet in motion. She’s already rewritten what’s possible in gymnastics. Whatever her role in L.A., her legacy is unshakable. Anything now is just icing on the cake. She’s already soared, twisted, and landed in the history books. Now, she’s seeing what life feels like when the mat is behind her and the horizon is wide open.
