Apollo Nida Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star pleaded guilty to mail, wire and bank fraud charges.

Apollo Nida, the infamously outspoken husband to Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks, has been sentenced to eight years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. The reality show husband pleaded guilty to mail, wire and bank fraud charges on May 6, 2014.

According to Atlanta's 11Alive News, federal prosecutors accused Nida, 35, of engaging in a four-year illegal scheme that ultimately cost more than 50 victims $2.3 million, collectively.

Nida, as well as his collaborators on the scheme, is accused of procuring stolen checks by stealing them or buying them, according to a press release issued by U.S. Attorney Sally Yates, who stated that the checks were originally meant to be issued to the U.S. Treasury and Delta Airlines pensioners.

The reality star and his accomplices are also further accused of acquiring funds by filing fraudulent tax returns in addition to making dishonest claims against the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 11 states using the names of victims who had their identities stolen.

Furthermore, Nida and others also acquired illegal auto loans secured by vehicles that they did not have personal ownership of or interest in. Prosecutors stated that they allegedly doctored up documents and websites that appeared to be from authorized auto dealerships to obtain these loans.

Following the confiscation of his computer by the Secret Service in September of 2013, Nida was arrested approximately four months later, in January.

In addition to his sentencing, Nida has also been ordered to pay restitution to the victims of his offenses by U.S. District Court Judge Charles A. Pannell Jr. A separate hearing will take place on July 17, 2014, to calculate the restitution amount.

According to TMZ, Nida risked being sentenced a maximum of 30 years, but was given a lighter punishment due to his cooperation with federal investigators by "spilling criminal secrets."
