Heartbroken Mom of Slain Toddler Faces Killers in Court

It has been close to three years since Shianne Norman's toddler was shot and killed at a Bronx, New York, playground during a shootout between gangs. But her emotional speech to her son's killers in court Tuesday shows the wounds from having to bury her young boy are nowhere near healed, the New York Daily News reports.

“I took him outside to play, and I never brung my son back home,” the 30-year-old said to the two gang members, Rondell Pinkerton and Ronald Jeffrey, who are responsible for her son's death. Lloyd Christopher Morgan Jr. was killed by a bullet that struck him when rival gangs opened fire at the Morrisania's Forest Houses.

The two men received their sentencing on Tuesday. Pinkerton was sentenced to 20 years for manslaughter and Jeffrey, 22, will serve eight years for criminal possession of a weapon.

The mother continued to pour out her pain while sobbing at the Bronx Supreme Court.

“Today is my son’s birthday. Chris would have been 7 today and instead of my family yesterday throwing a barbecue and bringing in the summer, having Memorial Day, I did nothing but think about this day right here — how I was going to have to make an impact statement to people, to two men who I don’t even think give two damns about the fact that they took my son’s life.”
Jeffrey made a short apology to Norman's family in response to her aching words. “God bless her and God bless for the rest of the family, and I’m deeply sorry for the rest of the family,” he mumbled, according to the Daily News.
