The news created a firestorm of reaction on Twitter. Reasonable folk saw this as a surprise, particularly because it’s actually rare for a person of color to be vindicated of any alleged crime or false accusation. The most trash takes, however, came from people calling the situation an example of “Black privilege.”

No, these MAGA bots aren’t talking about Charlamagne Tha God’s book of the same title. They actually believe the Empire actor got off because he’s Black. If you’re scratching your head going, “wayment,” you’re not alone.

A charged example of this came from some “Christian conservative writer” and “Yankees fan” named Carmine Sabia, who brought forth the hot garbage that is this take, tweeting, “If Jussie Smollett was white and fabricated a hate crime against fake black people in Chicago he would be in prison. This is black privilege in Chicago.”

Aside from his tweet being empirically, and completely, untrue, it just goes to show the lengths the right will go to try to disprove white privilege. Luckily for sane people, this guy getting lit up by the Twitterverse was a treat.
