J. Cole Taps TLC for "Crooked Smile"

Roc nation star teams up with iconic girl group on new single.

J. Cole is just weeks away from the biggest sales battle of his career, and there's nothing like new music to keep the momentum going.
Today, Cole unleashed the TLC-assisted "Crooked Smile," inadvertently borrowing from Nas' old "chipped tooth" rhymes by spitting on his own dental issues. "They tell me I should fix my grill cuz I got money now/I ain't gon' sit around and front like I ain't thought about it," he admits. "A perfect smile is more appealing, but it's funny how/My s--- is crooked, look at how far I done got without it/I keep my twisted grill just to show the kids it's real/ We ain't picture perfect, but we worth the picture still."
The uplifting single is the second off Born Sinner, which will go up against Kanye West's Yeezus on June 18. Cole announced the TLC collaboration to BBC radio's 1xtra  two weeks ago, and saluted the '90s trio-turned-duo via Twitter. "Thank you T-Boz and Chilli. RIP LEFT EYE."
Besides competing with West, Cole will promote his new work by way of a 10-city Dollar & A Dream tour. The "Power Trip" rapper teamed with cognac brand D’USSÉ to shun large venues in lieu of more intimate settings as a way to give back to fans. He's also offering tickets for the bargain-basement price of $1, but there's a catch. No tickets will be sold in advance. Fans will have to follow the Grammy winner on Twitter to learn venue names starting Jun 11 in Miami, and wrapping up June 26 in Toronto.
A portion of all ticket sales will go to Cole's non-profit Dreamville Foundation, an organization founded to "'bridge the gap' between the world of opportunity" for urban youth in his hometown of Fayetteville, NC.
