Drug Dealer Tied to Michael K. Williams’ Fatal Overdose Gets 30 Months in Prison

The Emmy Award-nominated actor died on September 6, 2021.

A man has been sentenced to over two decades in prison for his connection to the tragic overdose death of actor, Michael K. Williams.

Former drug dealer Carlos Macci was one of four men arrested in February 2022 for their involvement in the star’s death in 2021. The 72-year-old, alongside Irvin Cartagena, Luis Cruz, and Hector Robles, faced accusations of running a drug trafficking organization.

Macci has been sentenced to two and a half years behind bars, with an additional three years of supervised release following his imprisonment. Furthermore, he has been mandated to undergo a year-long inpatient drug treatment program as part of his sentence.

NBC News reported that Macci appeared apologetic prior to hearing the verdict in a New York City courthouse, telling the judge, “I would like to say, your honor, I'm sorry for what has happened.”

Williams passed away on September 6, 2023 after consuming heroin laced with fentanyl. He reportedly purchased the drugs a day before from a member of Macci’s crew. The alleged transaction was caught on footage obtained by police.

Prosecutors claim Macci and his associates continued to sell from that same batch even after news of Williams’ death was made public. Prosecutors were initially seeking four years.

During sentencing, U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams declined to give Macci a lengthier prison term, citing his difficult upbringing and long history of drug abuse. Macci reportedly dropped out of school in the second grade and was illiterate.

In a statement given to NBC News, Williams’ nephew Dominic Dupont expressed his sadness. It was Dupont who discovered the star unresponsive in his Brooklyn penthouse nearly two years ago.

“Today was a sad day. There are no winners here,” Dupont said. “We lost an amazing human being.”
