A Black 'Sex and the City'?
Helena Andrews of Washington, D.C. is the person behind a film that is being coined a Sex and the City for Black women. Her memoir, Bitch Is the New Black, already has the film rights sold and she hasn't even finished the book yet. According to The Washington Post:\r
The film rights for her memoir, "Bitch Is the New Black," a satirical look at successful young black women living in Washington, were purchased before the book was finished. Shonda Rhimes, the executive producer of "Grey's Anatomy," is set to produce the film and Andrews will write the screenplay. \r
There have been films that have explored the challenges of being successful, Black and single -- like Waiting To Exhale and Disappearing Acts. However, it has been awhile and it would be good to have a new take on the topic. Congrats to Helena Andrews and we here at BET will definitely be looking forward to the project.\r
