Marlon Wayans Cracks Jokes About 'Demon Slayer' Beating 'Him' At The Box Office

The 'Him' star turned friendly competition into comedy gold, proving he can laugh at any matchup.

Marlon Wayans is not holding his tongue when it comes to “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.”

The anime film has soared into the number 1 spot at the box office, and the “Him” star had a few words to share during his interview on the “ShxtsnGigs” podcast.

“Can I say it? F*** anime! We came at number two! ‘Him’ first! F*** anime! I was up against it, ‘Him’ came out that same week against whatever it was… ‘Demon Slayer!’ I want to wax your beard off your face!” he said.

The comedian previously discussed the mixed reactions to his film, as early reviews have been divided, sitting at a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, the actor isn’t letting critics define the project or his legacy.

In a reflective Instagram post, Wayans shared screenshots of some of his past films, including “White Chicks,” “Scary Movie 2,” and "A Haunted House,” all of which were initially panned but went on to become cult favorites. It was his way of reminding fans that time often tells a different story than critics do.

“Just to be clear… I respect critics. Their job is to critique. I respect their work. It shapes our industry,” he wrote.

“But an opinion does not always mean it’s everyone’s opinion. Some movies are ahead of the curve. Innovation is not always embraced, and art is to be interpreted, and it’s subjective.”

He continued, acknowledging how many of his projects have aged into fan favorites despite rocky starts. “I’ve had a career of making classic movies that weren’t critically received, and those movies went on to be CLASSICS,” he added. “So don’t take anyone’s opinion, just go see for yourself. Love to all. ‘Him’ in theaters now.”
