Jermaine Dupri Recalls That One Time Biggie Pulled Out A Gun On Lil’ Kim

The veteran producer shared some insight into Lil' Kim and Biggie's infamous relationship.

The intrinsic pairing of Lil' Kim and Biggie Smalls has long been a fixture in hip hop's complex history. Riddled with rumors of infidelity, heartbreak, and friction, the duo's relationship often unraveled both on wax and in real life.

Most recently, veteran producer Jermaine Dupri shed some light on Kim and Big's musically driven love affair during a sit-down with Drink Champs host N.O.R.E.

During his three-hour long interview, JD chatted about a wide range of topics, including his most memorable in-studio experiences. One studio session in particular, the production of Usher's My Way track "Just Like Me," was stopped abruptly after Biggie held Kim at gunpoint. According to the industry mogul, Big had written the verse in question for Kim, but when she reached the studio, she wasn’t in the head space to get the verse recorded.

"So what [Biggie] did was he wrote the rap for Lil' Kim, and Lil' Kim at this particular point in time, this was the time B.I.G. I'm thinking, he f**ked Kim's sister," JD said after speaking on Biggie's studio technique. "This is in the music though. This is in the music. And she found out about it, so she was upset when she came to the studio about this and he couldn't really get her to do the rap."
The veteran producer continued, noting that he and Usher were young at the time and just watched the situation unfold. Eventually, an argument between Biggie and Kim spilled into the hallway and Dupri followed them. "Me and Usher was just, you know, we was there, young, watching what was going on and B.I.G. pulled the strap out on her," Dupri said. Asked to clarify why, Dupri said, "To just let her know that he was gonna kill her." Kim, Dupri added, "was upset and really couldn't do the verse."
