Savannah Ré Pays Tribute to Her Mother and Sister in Heartfelt Mother’s Day Letter
In celebration of Mother’s Day, BET’s “Dear Mama” letter series invites artists to open their hearts and honor the maternal figures who helped mold them. Canadian R&B singer Savannah Ré stepped up to the moment with a deeply personal and poetic tribute—one that recognizes not just her mother, but also her big sister, who served as a second mom in her upbringing.
Known for her soul-stirring vocals and vulnerability in her music, Savannah brings the same raw emotion to this letter. She thanks her mother not only for giving her life but for breathing continuous inspiration into her path as an artist.
“You always told me I was definitely off the beaten path, creative and artistic in every way,” she writes, recalling a childhood where love and support were abundant, even when resources were modest. Her mother’s unwavering faith, protection, and spiritual grounding are threads that still anchor her today.
Equally touching is her shoutout to her older sister, a woman who helped raise her despite being just a child herself. “If I ever get to be half the woman you are today, it will have all been worth it,” Savannah says, acknowledging the sacrifices made and strength modeled.
As she closes, the singer offers a moment of grace for those who may be navigating grief on Mother’s Day, sending love to anyone missing their mom this year.
Savannah Ré’s letter is a reminder that motherhood, in all its forms, is a sacred force—and that behind every strong woman is often another, quietly doing the work of love.

Dear Mom,
Thank you for my life, not just having me but also constantly breathing life into me constantly as I go. As a child, you always told me I was definitely off the beaten path, creative and artistic in every way but you did everything to support my vast and (sometimes strange) interests. We lived humbly but you always made sure our minds, tummies and hearts were filled, and that “no weapons formed” could ever harm us.
Thank you can never encompass my gratitude for being raised by such a strong, smart and fierce woman. To my second mom, my big sister. Being so young and helping raise me had to have been so annoying! But if I ever get to be half the woman you are today, it will have all been worth it. All the best parts of me are an echo of you. I love you both, dearly and sending so much love to anyone without their mothers this holiday.
Love, Savannah Ré
