The African-American Film Critics Association named Dark Knight the Best Picture of 2008, Angela Jolie the Best Actress of 2008 for The Changleing, and Frank Langella the Best Actor of 2008 for Frost/Nixon.  Gil Robertson, President of the AAFCA, stated in a press release, ""Although our organization gives specific consideration to work by artists of African descent, the performances of Mr. Langella and Ms. Jolie are undeniably transcendent and deserving of our recognition."\r
AAFCA honored director Melvin Van Pebbles with the Special Achievement Award to director for his film Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song.\r
Since 2003, AAFCA has named a diverse selection of films as the best picture of the year: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Ray, Crash, Dreamgirls, and The Great Debaters.\r

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) is the only organization of African American film media professional. Founded in 2003, AAFCA's members represent a geographically diverse cross-section of media covering the cinematic arts. The organization honors excellence in cinema by creating awareness for films with universal appeal to black communities, while emphasizing film about the black experience and those produced, written, directed and starring performers of African descent.
