Michael B. Jordan’s New Project Is Getting Dragged By Twitter Because Of Colorism

‘Raising Dion’ is raising some serious concerns.

Netflix is currently finalizing the cast for its upcoming Michael B. Jordan-starring and produced series Raising Dion, and have just revealed the actors who will fill two of the sci-fi family drama's major roles.

This unveiling, however, was met with disapproval from several early fans of the upcoming series who claim colorism is already at play given the comparison of the actors ultimate cast to those shown in the previously released teaser.

Jordan recently took to Instagram to share with his followers that Alisha Wainwright and newcomer Ja'Siah Young have been cast as the series' leads alongside himself and Jason Ritter.

  • The story follows the story of a woman named Nicole Reese (Wainwright), who raises her son Dion (Young) after the deah of her husband, Mark (Jordan).

The sci-fi acspect of the series is introduced when 7-year-old Dion's abilities begin to manifest into magical, superhero-like powers.

While this story of a Black superhero-centric family is one to be celebrated, and has proven to be profitable — a prime example being the massively successful CW series Black Lightning —Raising Dion was not met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the Black community following the casting reveal.

In fact, some have even pledged to boycott the series altogether after noticing that the mother-son duo that was ultimately cast was undoubtedly lighter in complexion than the two shown in the featurette that got several viewers excited, to being with.
