Posted April 10, 2008 –  The mom of reggae's greatest superstar has died at 81.

Jamaican Cedella Booker gave birth to Bob Marley after she married a British man who was 32 years older than her tender 18.

Marley went on to popularize the Caribbean form of music that has been widely blended with American hip hop since his death in 1981.

Mrs. Booker was the matriarch of a movement so powerful that the mystical qualities of the Marley musical legacy remain strong and potent," Jamaica 's Information Minister Olivia Grange says.

Booker wrote two biographies of Marley and recorded two albums of her own.
