NBA Player Victor Wembanyama’s Debut Jersey Auctioned For $762,000

The rookie plays for the San Antonio Spurs.

Victor Wembanyama has fans racking up major bands just to get their hands on his gear.

On Tuesday (Nov. 21), the 19-year-old NBA rookie's debut San Antonio Spurs jersey sold for $762,000 at an auction hosted by Sotheby's, as reported by TMZ.

At nearly a million dollars, this sale is one for the books. The site reports the jersey was only anticipated to sell for approximately $100K.

According to the auction house, the athlete wore the white, gray, and black Nike mesh jersey during the first game of his NBA career on Oct. 25 in a match against the Dallas Mavericks. Although the Spurs walked away with a loss that game, falling 126-119, this brotha's 7'4 frame made a huge statement on the court. Wembanyama scored 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, and one block.

It appears Wembanyama was on the Spurs' radar before he joined the team. On May 16, the team won the NBA Draft Lottery for the third time in franchise history, allowing them to select first and tap a player for their organization. The following month, they secured Wembanyama from France, whose standout skills projected him to be a #1 draft pick years prior.

Given that his jersey number is #1, it's no surprise he's bringing his A-game to the court.

During a post-game press conference, Wembanyama discussed the joy he experienced while playing in the opening game of his NBA career. “Felt surreal for a moment,” he said. “I just feel very lucky to be here.”

Wembanyama will face off against the LA Clippers on Wednesday (Nov. 22) at 7 pm CST.
