Meghan McCain Criticizes Michael Che’s ‘SNL’ Joke About Black Republican Winsome Sears

The former co-host of ‘The View’ isn’t laughing at all.

Meghan McCain is no longer a co-host at The View but she is still making her opinions known, this time on Fox News. McCain’s latest “outrage” is over a joke Michael Che made on Saturday Night Love about incoming Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears.

On Nov. 2, Sears became the first Black woman to be elected Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor. Sears is a staunch conservative who got tongues wagging after her campaign ad went viral featuring her touting an assault style weapon and her ideals that critical race theory is “soon as we see a white person, they are racist, clearly, and so is everyone else in their family.”

During the November 6 “Weekend Update'' satire news segment on SNL, which has equally mocked Democrats and Republicans for decades, a photo of Sears holding the assault style weapon popped up. Che said, “Republican Winsome Sears, seen here attempting suicide-by-cop, was elected as Virginia’s first Black female lieutenant governor.”

As the audience laughed, Che continued, “This is actually a win for Democrats because nothing will get Republicans to support gun control faster than this picture.”

McCain was not left laughing. While on Fox News, McCain insisted that critical race theory is being taught in children’s math and science courses, and took the time to slam Che’s joke on SNL.

"It's awful,"  McCain said. "It’s a historic moment in the fact that she’s a Republican and by the way, a veteran, [and] should be getting much more applause. If she were a Democrat, she would be on Rolling Stone magazine. Instead, she’s a punchline on 'Saturday Night Live'."

In 2018, Democrat Sheila Oliver became the first Black woman Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey and the first woman of color elected to statewide office in the Garden State. In 2019, Democrat Juliana Stratton became the first Black woman Lieutenant Governor of Illonis. It serves to point out that neither of them were on the cover of Rolling Stone or any mainstream magazine.

McCain continued, “[It’s] better to have a blackface governor who has appeared in blackface and, or Klan outfits than to have a conservative Black first woman as your lieutenant governor. That’s what’s good for the left right now.”

McCain is referring to the current Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, who rightfully received tons of backlash for donning blackface in his 1984 medical school yearbook. The scandal happened in 2019, well after Northam was elected.

Despite McCain’s delusions that Democrats were happy with a governor in blackface, there were several demands for him to resign from NAACP's President and CEO Derrick Johnson, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, then Sen. Kamala Harris, then presidential candidate Joe Biden and many more. Northam issued an apology but he refused to step down. McCain also appears to have forgotten that Alabama Governor Kay Ivey was also in blackface and refused to resign.
