BigXthaPlug Arrested Hours Before Album Release
Hours before the release of his highly anticipated album, I Hope You’re Happy, Texas rapper BigXthaPlug, born Xavier Landum, was arrested in Dallas on August 21. Landum was booked into the Dallas County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm. According to Fox 4 News, officers pulled him over as he was leaving Williams Chicken after spotting his car without a front license plate. The stop followed a tip about a local car club gathering. During the traffic stop, Landum admitted to having a firearm under his armrest, and police say they found two guns and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. Because Landum’s name is in a criminal database linking him to a gang in Arlington, he is legally prohibited from carrying a firearm.
After appearing before a judge and posting bond, Landum was released. Despite the arrest, his main focus remained on promoting his new album. Release events scheduled for August 21 at Cash Cow Bar and a second event at a Wing Stop location were canceled, though the rapper told Fox 4 News that he plans to reschedule. He said he wanted the public to focus on his music rather than the legal situation.
Landum’s attorney, Valarie Baston, clarified the nature of the charges, emphasizing they are misdemeanors. “We are going to work vigorously for our client. It is what it is. It’s two misdemeanors. People are saying it’s a felony and it’s not,” she said.
I Hope You’re Happy features eleven tracks, each with a country artist collaboration including Jelly Roll, Shaboozey, and Ella Langley. The album reflects BigXthaPlug’s personal journey, covering his rise to fame, struggles with depression, and experiences of love and loss.
