Olympic Sprinter Fred Kerley Arrested for Alleged Assault on Ex-Girlfriend

Kerley faces misdemeanor battery charges after allegedly striking fellow Olympian Alaysha Johnson at a Florida hotel, marking his third arrest this year.

Olympic medalist Fred Kerley was arrested on May 1, 2025, in Dania Beach, Florida, following allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend, fellow Olympian Alaysha Johnson. The incident reportedly occurred at the Le Méridien Dania Beach hotel, where both athletes were staying ahead of the Grand Slam Track event in Miami.

According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, Johnson alleged that during a heated argument, Kerley struck her in the face with a closed fist, resulting in a bloody nose. Deputies noted that Johnson's injuries were consistent with her account. Kerley was charged with misdemeanor battery and released on a $1,000 bond the following day.

According to reports, Kerley’s girlfriend, who goes by DJ Sky High Baby online, refuted the claims, saying Johnson’s boyfriend was also involved in the altercation and was the one who hit Johnson.

Kerley's attorney, Richard Cooper, has denied the allegations, suggesting that the claims are driven by jealousy among competitors. He urged the public not to rush to judgment, stating that exculpatory facts would eventually come to light.

This arrest marks Kerley's third in recent months. In January 2025, he was arrested in Miami Beach after a confrontation with police officers, during which he was tased. He pleaded not guilty to charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. Additionally, in May 2024, Kerley faced charges of domestic battery and robbery involving his wife, to which he also pleaded not guilty.

As a result of the recent arrest, Kerley has been withdrawn from the Grand Slam Track event in Miami, where he was scheduled to compete in the 100m and 200m races. The Grand Slam Track organization confirmed his withdrawal and stated that the Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating the matter.

Kerley is a decorated athlete, having won a silver medal in the 100-meter race at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a bronze in the same event at the 2024 Paris Games. Johnson also competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics as a hurdler.

The case remains under investigation, and further details are expected to emerge as legal proceedings continue.
