Janet Jackson to Receive ICON Honor At American Music Awards

The AMAs called Jackson 'one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era.'

Janet Jackson will be receiving an ICON honor at the 2025 American Music Awards on May 26.

On Tuesday, May 13, CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced that the R&B and pop legend will be handed the ICON Award during the telecast, along with performing. The televised performance will be the first for the 11-time AMA winner since 2018. That same year, Jackson earned the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, also performing a medley of songs like “Nasty” and “If” during the show.

The AMAs called Jackson an artist “whose music has had undeniable cultural and global influence over the music industry,” with previous recipients being Rihanna in 2013 and Lionel Richie in 2022. Jackson thanked the awards institution on Instagram, calling the award “an honor.”

Between May 21 and May 31, Jackson will conclude her Janet Jackson: Las Vegas residency at Resorts World—it has been extended after its first six dates that began last December.

Hosting the 2025 AMAs is Jennifer Lopez live from the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, while nominees include Kendrick Lamar, Shaboozey and more.
