Raven-Symoné Hilariously Schools Wife Miranda Maday on Ebonics During SiriusXM Interview
Raven Symoné is teaching her wife, Miranda Maday, a crash course about ebonics.
During an interview on The Smith Sisters Live on SiriusXM, one of the hosts, Lauren, shared an amusing observation about how white people often greet each other with “Hi there.” The comment sent Symoné into a comedic spiral as she recalled a recent language mix-up with her wife.
“Let me tell you what my wife did the other day—she said, ‘I wish you would go upstairs,’” Raven recounted, laughing with the hosts.
“And then she said, ‘What’s the matter with that?’ I told her she’d just hit me with fighting words. You threatened me!”
Maday jumped in to defend herself, clarifying, “I was just saying, ‘I wish you would go upstairs and do this for me.’”
Two of the hosts chuckled, explaining why the phrase landed so differently.
“Whatever you say after ‘I wish you would,’ even if it’s beautiful and positive…automatically sounds combative,” they joked.
Maday wondered whether tone makes a difference, prompting a unified “No!” from everyone in the studio. Raven added that it’s “worse” if the phrase is delivered sweetly.
Raven wrapped up the moment by telling the hosts, “I love y’all so much,” and sharing how validated she felt after the hilarious exchange.
