Tamar Braxton Shares That She Struggles With Body Dysmorphia

"A record executive told me I was too fat at 11."

Tamar Braxton went to her parents' house and inevitably took a trip down memory lane. While looking through a few things, the "Blind" singer stumbled upon a photo from 1996 and took to IG to share it with her 3M followers.

It was not a Thursday when the 41-year-old shared the photo. But she took it a step further than just captioning the photo #TBT. She shared a very personal side of life as she continues to battle with body dysmorphia.

Body dysmorphia is a mental illness that causes one to create a negative obsession with their physical appearance.

“There is nothing like going to your Parents house and finding old 1996 HORRIBLE pictures of yourself!! Can you believe I thought I was FAT??!?” Braxton wrote on Instagram. “It’s so funny how you see yourself then, and how it parallels to now.”

ICYMI: Earlier this year, Tamar cut her hair off in hopes to no longer feel captive to people and her own thoughts.

“I STILL struggle with body dysmorphia to THIS DAY all because a record executive told me I was too fat at 11 to be more of a ‘commercial’ artist,” the Grammy-nominated singer confessed.

Tamar wants it to be clear that she is just like everyone else. From family issues to everything else that you can imagine, the R&B singer has to deal with it just like us.

She also offered a few words of  encouragement to her 3 million Tamartian:

"We put ourselves through hell to be however someone else see’s us..how about if you are going to work at something, WORK ON YOU FOR YOU and have the faith that GOD made you this way on purpose! Because really what other’s see is your greatness and want to TRICK you into thinking otherwise to USE you!! This is why having Esteem of YOURSELF is so important!! Because once you decide to choose YOU and what YOU like??..... maaaaaaaannn watch out!! Here you come!!! Do yourself a favor and STAY on they NECK!!!"

We love this side of Tamar and we hope she continues on the road of reflection and healing so that she can continue to deliver that #blackgirlmagic.
