TikTok Creator Arrested After Deadly Chicago-Area Crash Allegedly Happened During Livestream

Zion police say a livestream helped connect TikTok creator Tynesha McCarty-Wroten to a November crash that killed 59-year-old Darren Lucas as he walked home from work.

Illinois content creator Tynesha McCarty-Wroten is facing serious charges after police linked her to a fatal crash that investigators say happened while she was live on TikTok.

Officers in Zion took McCarty-Wroten into custody on Dec. 23 following a weeks-long investigation into a Nov. 3 incident that left 59-year-old Darren Lucas dead. Lucas had just clocked out of his shift at a local grocery store and was walking home when he was hit at an intersection.

Police say tips from the public played a key role in the case after a livestream began circulating online that appeared to show McCarty-Wroten driving moments before the crash. Investigators later confirmed the video’s timing through forensic analysis after her legal team turned over her phone.

According to The Guardian, the clip was a screen recording of a TikTok livestream connected to the username “Tea_Tyme_3.” In the video, the creator is seen speaking to her phone before a loud impact interrupts the stream.

“F**k, f**k, f**k… I just hit somebody,” the driver allegedly says, while someone else in the vehicle reacts off camera.

The account was later set to private, and references to Zion were removed from the profile, the outlet reported.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of reckless homicide and aggravated use of an electronic communication device. Zion police say McCarty-Wroten was arrested shortly after the warrant was issued and appeared to be preparing to leave her home with her luggage packed.

Authorities say Lucas was crossing the street on his way back to Beach Park when he was struck. First responders arrived around 5:46 p.m. and transported him to Vista Medical Center, where he later died
