Run That Back: This Week in Music Featuring Mac Miller and Kendrick Lamar, Kenneth Whalum and Big K.R.I.T. and More

Our music staff picks their favorite songs released September 9 - September 16.

A lot of good quality music came out this week.

On the heels of releasing his newest album The Divine Feminine, Mac Miller dropped a monster collaborative single with Kendrick Lamar. "God Is Fair, Sexy, Nasty" has K Dot spitting in rare autotune, which is interesting to say the least. Check it out here.

Big K.R.I.T. spit a VERY chilling version on Kenneth Whalum's latest single. "Might Not Be OK" releases amongst more police-involved violence, this time in the streets of Ohio. Hear it here.

A$AP Ferg, Danny Brown, OG Maco and Rick Ross all released new music this week. Check out our staff favorites below.

A$AP Ferg - "OOOUUU"

Ferg-alicious tears up Young M.A.'s hit with some solid bars. Would love to actually see this sewed together with M.A.'s original so it could be a true collaboration, especially since Ferg shouts her out like three times on the record. Always cool when other artists show respect, especially when it comes from within the same city. - Kathy Iandoli

GTA feat. Vince Staples - "Little Bit of This"

With his Prima Donna mixtape still fresh on the charts, LBC Spitter Vince Staples is already dropping more fresh heat, this time with Miami production team GTA. The visuals for the song (which is pleasantly reminiscent of "Surf" from the Summertime '06 album) feature a fleet of late '70s BMW 3 series ripping up the dirt around the "Blue Suede" rapper tearing up the dirt to this up tempo banger. - Jacob Rohn

Kenneth Whalum feat. Big K.R.I.T. - "Might Not Be Ok"

On the same day Tyree King was gunned down by police in Columbus, Ohio, Kenneth Whalum released his single "Might Not Be OK," reflective of instances just like King's. Big K.R.I.T.'s verse on the track is perhaps his most groundbreaking since his rap-shattering ones for "Mt. Olympus" from 2014. Krizzle's known to be emotional, but this takes his usual tales of struggle to a whole new level. - Paul Meara

Mac Miller feat. Kendrick Lamar - "God is Fair, Sexy, Nasty"

Mac Miller’s new full-length offering, The Divine Feminine, is out today (September 16) and picks up where he left off on 2015’s GO:OD AM, further proving the Mac Miller known for being an overall punk and rapping about surface-level partying isn’t who he is anymore. The rapper’s evolution is strengthened by his fitting production choices, pairing distinguished compositions with singing and rapping alike. On the Kendrick Lamar-assisted “God Is Fair, Sexy Nasty,” the two create a track that is as gritty as it is polished. I like this Mac Miller. - KC Orcutt
