Omarion Says His Three-Year Pause From Intimacy Transformed His Mindset

The singer shares how choosing celibacy led to unexpected clarity, emotional awareness, and a new level of discipline.

Omarion is opening up about a chapter of his life that surprised even him: a three-year stretch of celibacy he describes as both transformative and, in his words, “weird.”

Sitting down with Shawn Stockman on his show, “On That Note,” the singer looked back at the period when he intentionally pressed pause on intimacy.

It wasn’t about abstinence for abstinence’s sake, he explained, but a spiritual trek toward self-mastery at a time when he was still figuring himself out.

As the “Touch” singer explained it, he was a young man trying to gain “personal control over myself and my body,” and celibacy became the unexpected path.

Looking back, he laughs at the extremity of the choice.

“I did it for three years,” he said, still a bit stunned at his own resolve.

“Now I look back, I be like, sheesh.”

Part of the surprise comes from how deeply he appreciates women, something he openly celebrates.

He loves them “in all their splendor,” from friendships to romance, which made the practice all the more challenging.

But the experience brought clarity. The actor said it revealed how real soul ties can be, especially the kind formed through physical connection.

During that time, he began noticing an almost telepathic closeness with partners from his past, a feeling of emotional proximity even when they weren’t around.

He describes it as the first time he understood intimacy beyond the physical.

More than anything, though, the journey sharpened his discipline.

He realized he could shut down any impulse that didn’t serve him instantly.

That ability, he said, became a “cheat code,” giving him a level of focus and intentionality that changed how he approached everything, from relationships to career decisions.

Ultimately, the celibacy era wasn’t about denying desire; it was about learning the power of choosing when to engage it.

The practice “served its purpose,” the “O” singer noted, giving him a foundation of self-control that he can “turn on and off” whenever life requires a higher level of clarity.
