SMH: Here's Why Leslie Jones Left Twitter
Leslie Jones has gotten rave reviews for her performance in the new all-female Ghostbusters reboot, but not everyone is excited for her feature, particularly the racist critics.
Leslie, who plays the only minority member of the foursome in the film, announced she was leaving Twitter after being heckled by racist trolls. At one point, someone even posted a tweet under a fake account to make it seem like the actress hurled homophobic insults at journalist Milo Yiannopoulis, who wrote a pretty negative review of the film.
Take a look at her tweets below:
Describing the racially motivated abuse she received since the film's release, Leslie said she had been called an "aple" and "even got a pic with semen on my face." She said she received "evil" comments every few minutes and was forced to block multiple trolls daily.
After tweeting of the abuse she received, the hashtag #LoveForLeslieJ was started and began trending on Twitter. According to the Daily Mail, a spokesperson for Twitter spoke out, saying, "This type of abusive behavior is not permitted on Twitter, and we've taken action on many of the accounts reported to us by both Leslie and others."
We've got your back, Leslie!
