The allure of an island man is quite simply hard to deny. I am not sure if it’s their swarthy complexions or libidinous accents but something about all of the above (and then some) makes them irresistible. After all, Stella didn’t get her groove back in Wyoming! In lieu of that, it is by no surprise that island men use their appeal to their advantage when it comes to seducing women. ALL women. Not to mention being a woman of partial Caribbean descent, I have witnessed firsthand from the men in and around my family the mesmeric effect they can have on the female species.

The charismatic island man currently trending is multi-Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt. The fastest man alive’s most recent accomplishment off the track is landing the cover of GQ magazine’s December ‘16 issue. With a little island pride and a smidge of curiosity, I was intrigued to read what Usain had to say in his interview about his personal life.

To my dismay a few stereotypical claims close to home were brought to light in GQ, THE men’s definitive magazine, for the entire (male) universe to read. Usain Bolt made claims of his Caribbean culture being responsible for his "womanizing" and/or promiscuous ways. Was that actually true? Or was that just another excuse to justify one of the many double standards hidden in the folds of the male brain?

I could not help but round up a few fellow island friends of mine for an exclusive group chat to anecdotally suss out fact from fiction when it comes to this stereotype!
