NeNe Leakes Explains Why She Turned Down ‘The Traitors’ Season 4

The reality star opened up on the Humble Brag podcast, revealing Brentt’s medical emergency changed everything.

The world has been missing NeNe Leakes on their screens because the reruns of "Real Housewives of Atlanta" simply aren’t enough! Our wish was almost granted, as Leakes was set to join the Season 4 cast of "The Traitors," but that is no longer happening. She shared why during her visit to the “Humble Brag” podcast with Crystal Minkoff and Cynthia Bailey.

“I couldn’t do Traitors because my son is in the hospital, and he’s still in the hospital. My son has been in the hospital since May,” she said. Unfortunately, Brent Leakes suffered a stroke at the young age of 22 and recently had a heart transplant that began rejecting, causing his current hospitalization. “I’m so glad I said no,” she explained. Brent was very sick. It was no way I could have committed to it.”

Although Leakes believed that this could have been the comeback moment that her stans have been waiting for, she’s always been a mother first! There were also rumors that she didn’t do the show because the check wasn’t sitting right, but she made that clear on “Humble Brag” as well. “No, no, no. I got the check,” she said. “If Brentt were where he is today—walking and talking—I would have gone. We could FaceTime.” According to Deadline, her son’s recovery is progressing at this time, so maybe we can get a dose of NeNe sometime soon.

The cast of "The Traitors" Season 4 includes some of our favorites from the "Real Housewives" series: Porsha Williams (Atlanta), Caroline Stanbury (Dubai), Candiace Dillard (Potomac), Lisa Rinna (Beverly Hills), and Dorinda Medley (NYC), along with NFL mom Donna Kelce, "Love Island USA’s" Rob Raush, and more! It would’ve been iconic to see NeNe go toe-to-toe with this crew.

"The Traitors" is scheduled to return on Peacock in 2026.
